John Cena is taking on a new role as the host of one of television’s biggest events of the summer.

It was announced on Thursday that Cena will be the host of Shark Week 2024, which begins on the Discovery Channel on Sunday, July 7. Cena tweeted that he’s “thrilled” to host the week of Shark-themed programming.

The Discovery Channel noted that this year’s Shark Week will be highlighted by the following shows:

One of the highlights of this week-long event will be the premiere of Belly of the Beast Pt. 2, an intense and eye-opening show that delves into the world of great white shark feeding frenzies. You can also look forward to Monster Hammerhead: Species X, a captivating exploration of a potential new species of hammerhead sharks! Plus, Great White Serial Killer: Sea of Blood, a gripping tale of a great white shark wreaking havoc in a local village.

An annual event, Shark Week has been airing since 1988. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was the host for the 2022 edition of Shark Week. Actor Jason Momoa hosted last year’s event.

Cena was involved at WWE WrestleMania 40 last month, appearing during the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes Undisputed WWE Championship match. Cena helped Rhodes win the title by fending off interference from The Bloodline.

On the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw, Cena made another surprise appearance and teamed with The Miz & R-Truth to defeat Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor & JD McDonagh.

Cena is hoping to return to WWE after Christmas for “one last run.” Cena, who is 47 right now, plans on retiring from in-ring competition before he turns 50.
