Canucks’ Thatcher Demko skates in Nashville, Rick Tocchet says ‘no real update’ on recovery

Arturs Silovs is expected to start tonight in Nashville, but there was a familiar face out this morning taking reps in the Vancouver goal crease.

Ahead of the Canucks’ game six tilt with the Predators tonight, star goaltender Thatcher Demko hit the ice in Nashville. This wasn’t his first on-ice session since the injury, either, as Demko has been on the ice for the past few days.

Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre shared that Demko even waved to the media in attendance who he noticed watching him get some reps in. Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet — who was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award earlier in the day — offered this update on Demko.

“He skated yesterday for a little bit,” said Tocchet. “There’s no real update. He has improved, but he’s not doing really invasive drills, but he’s out there, which is a good thing. Is he progressing? Yes. To what degree? I don’t know.”

It is believed Demko will be able to return late in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, should the Canucks get there. The Edmonton Oilers are currently waiting to see if they will face Vancouver or Nashville in that second round series after the Oilers took down the Los Angeles Kings in five games.

After dropping game five on home ice on Tuesday night, the Canucks have another chance to clinch the series vs. the Predators tonight at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville for game six. Read our full game six preview here!
