NFL analyst makes brutal prediction for Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping that their busy offseason will result in success on the field during the upcoming 2024 NFL season. Even after a rough 2023 campaign, Tomlin led his team to the playoffs and yet another winning season. To this point in his career, Tomlin has never allowed the Steelers to have a losing season, which is insane in and of itself.

Around the NFL, most believe that the Steelers have improved this offseason. They had poor quarterback play in 2023, to say the least, and upgraded that position in two separate moves. Russell Wilson was signed out of free agency and they also acquired Justin Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears.

Despite the improvement at the quarterback position and some great additions around the rest of the roster, one former player and NFL analyst made a brutal prediction for the Steelers in 2024.

Pittsburgh Steelers Receive Brutal 2024 Prediction

Former NFL player and current analyst, Mark Schlereth, made a brutal prediction. He thinks that Tomlin will suffer through his first losing season with the Steelers due to who he has playing quarterback.

“Just based on who’s playing quarterback, Mike Tomlin is going to have his first losing season this year. Based on the two guys who play quarterback for him.”

Needless to say, that is a very big prediction. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are upgrades over what the Pittsburgh Steelers received at the quarterback position last season with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. Making this prediction based off of the quarterback situation seems wrong.

Despite the perceived upgrade, there are concerns that Schlereth mentioned regarding potential sack issues due to both new quarterbacks having bad snap-to-throw times.

Even with that being a concern, it seems likely that the Pittsburgh Steelers will get better production from Wilson and/or Fields than they did with their 2023 quarterbacks. They also added quite a bit of talent around the roster, especially in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Granted, anything can happen. However, it’s difficult to buy a prediction like this one due to Tomlin’s career success. This doesn’t seem to be the roster that he would have his first losing season with after some of the team’s he has won with over the years.

It will be interesting to see how the Pittsburgh Steelers come out to start the 2024 season. We’ll know a lot more about this team after the first few weeks of the season are played.
